Easy Ways to Reduce Waste: Stop Junk Mail

The Average American receive 41 pounds of junk mail a year, 44% of which goes straight to the landfill completely unopened.

Aside from being a complete nuisance, junk mail and direct marketing mailers contribute to the destruction of our environment.

If you’re sick of throwing out mail unopened, there are a few ways you can manage the situation.

  1. BE PROACTIVE! Be selective with who knows your mailing address and don’t put your personal information out in public.
  2. Contact the Direct Marketing Association, and sign up to opt out of receiving mail you don’t want.
  3. Sign up for one of the many paid/free services such as 41pounds.org to further stem unwanted mail
  4. If you have gigantic piles of junk mail already, consider purchasing a paper log maker and turning unwanted mail into fuel for your next campfire.  If you don’t have the money, DIY applications are also a possibility.

I don’t know about you but I’ve got enough people/places/things clamoring for my attention.  Why not stop the flow of garbage into landfills and clear out your mailbox at the same time.
